D-Day Tour
http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/graffiti53.html

My family took a one day private tour of the D-Day sights in August with Battlebus. Our guide was Geert, who is a walking encyclopedia of World War II knowledge. We have 3 boys, ages 15, 12 and 8. Geert managed to keep the 15 and 12 year old very interested -- our 8 year old enjoyed the beaches, the museum in St. Mere Eglise, the bomb craters at Pointe du Hoc, lunch at the Gen. Teddy Roosevelt at Utah Beach (including the bunker under the restaurant) and the American Cemetary. We all learned a great deal and our 15 year old said the day was one of the highlights of our European vacation. I certainly recommend Battlebus and I recommend a private tour for any family like ours. It made a big difference. As for accomodations, we stayed in Bayeux at a B&B named Logis Les Remparts. It is in a perfect location and is run by a wonderful lady named Christele. For 100 Euros we had two large connected rooms (beautiful) sharing a lovely bathroom. It was a fantastic value and a great place. Europe with Kids

Normandy
http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/graffiti67.html

Some suggestions for driving--We used Michelin's atlas (1-200,000), with an inexpensive compass/magnifying glass. VERY helpful. We drove all over Normandy with no big problems. Know the city/town you are headed for because the signs don't emphasize the route numbers. Roundabouts are the best invention ever !The B&B in Bayeux "Les Remparts" was a treat, a "would do again" stay. Follow RS's advice about things closing down Noon to 2, and in rural France, time your lunch accordingly. BattleBus was the greatest. Gurt was a pleasure. I can't imagine anyone going to the "beaches" and not taking a guided tour. We saw so much more than we would EVER see on our own (and we did a ton of research)One last thing--as RS says don't be afraid to pantomime (spell?). to get your point across, we all had many good laughs communicating.

Les Remparts - Bayeux, France

Opinion submitted in Nov 2003 by : 44,44,50,16

Resort Rating: Excellent

Accommodation Rating: Excellent

My/Our Holiday Opinion:

It has large spacious rooms, in a typical French town house, overlooking Charles De Gaulle (treelined)Square. The house is very peacefull and the owner Christele is very welcoming and helpfull. They have a Cider Shop next door and you can park around the square.

Les Remparts Bed and Breakfast-Highly Recommend

Dec 20, 2005: A TripAdvisor Member, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

My husband and I stayed with Francois and Christele for a week in April (OK, this is a bit late in posting) 2005. As we are both military historians, the central locale was prime, and the hospitality extended by the inn-keepers was among the best we've experienced at similar-sized facilities throughout the continent. Both were helpful to us in navigating the logistics of searching for out-of-the-way places in the region. We look forward to a return visit sometime in the near future, and would have to search far to find a move convivial location and environment than Les Remparts.

We spent two nights at Les Remparts in early September 2004 while visiting Bayeux and the D-Day beaches and had a wonderful time. Our large family room (2 connected rooms for 4 adults) was tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The Lecornus also produce cider, apple preserves and calvados, all of which were delicious (nothing like unwinding with a cold bottle of Norman cider after an all day D-Day tour!). The hosts were friendly and helpful and the price was very reasonable. All in all a great centrally located B&B.

My husband and I joined a whole day d-day tour in August. There is no way to join the morning tour if you start in Paris. The earliest train arrive at Bayeux will be 9.xxam when the tour will have began. So we arrived one day earlier. The hotel was chosen because of the good price (EUR 50 for a double room) and location. There was only one review of it at that period of time but the review was positive.

We agreed with the comment and found the service was good:

1. Christèle the hostess was prompt in replying the emails

2. She was nice and helpful and the breakfast was good

3. The Room Bajocasse was clean and spacious. It looks as charming and lovely as in the pictures. Although there was no TV nor A/C, we have enjoyed our short stay there. We told the tour agent the name of our BB and they arranged the car to pick we up at the Les Remparts. Christèle also arranged an early breakfast for us which is very considerate.

We stayed at the Logis des Ramparts with the gracious host Christele LeCornu and thoroughly enjoyed it. The rooms were charming and comfortable, the breakfast was fresh and filling and the location was centrally located. I would definitely return.
